temescal + ONE & DONE

TEMESCAL-

Oakland based Temescal is made up of veteran Bay Area musicians who have performed throughout the Bay Area together and separately for the last two decades. Each musician brings a different element of musical roots to this unique ensemble and reflects our interpretations of deep cuts of Americana, Urban Rock, Rhythm and Blues, Funk, Soul, originals and straight up dance music.

Lead singer Michele Minsuk brings her rock, pop and soul influences for a driving vocal performance and blends perfectly with keyboardist Sharon Sofia, a beautiful natural harmonizer who also shares lead vocal duties. Mixing keyboards, harmonica, electric flute and percussion, her talents enhance the sound and really stand out.

Guitarist Jerome Rainey rounds out the three-part harmony parts and interacts perfectly with lead guitarist Tony Zepezauer. Their guitar conversations are crafted and well thought out parts that paint a bright musical tapestry.

Chris Hanson is the musical director and holds it all down on the bass. He has extensive knowledge of music theory and classical training. Ken Horn is solid on the drum kit and can adapt parts to fit any song and style. He has taken the band to a new level as a driving rhythm force. Ron Marcus adds color and texture to the mix with his tasteful percussion talents. He is a lyricist with 900 songs in his catalog. He also has 30 spoken word CDs with Sharon Sofia exploring electric flute. His latest five releases feature Grammy award winner Mads Tolling (Bob Weir's Wolf Pack) on violin and interplay with Sharon's electric flute and guitarists Jody Salino and Peter Harris from Grateful Tuna.

ONE & DONE- is an original, hard-hitting modern rock band based in the East Bay and Marin County of San Francisco, California. Their story and music began 6 years ago in Oakland, CA, and celebrates living, family, and music and experiences reflecting on their lives through the decades since the 60’s. They play a mixture of originals and covers from all of the decades. They released their full length album "Birth, Death, and The Story Of Our Lives" in 2022 and new music "Footsteps/Better Days" in February.

Pete Okie Weiss (yes, his middle name is Okie) hails from Austin, Texas, where he played keys & accordion with local legends Gumbo Ce Soir, The Gritones, and Leo Rondeau. Now based in Oakland, Okie assembled a zydeco rhythm section featuring members of soul band Emily Day & the Knights and honky-tonkers The Country Business. The result is Okie Weiss & the Zydeco Playboys, a new zydeco band that knows how to walk the soul-country line and keep that dance floor packed 'til closing time.

COFFIS BROTHERS + ALICE HOWE & FREEBO

“The Coffis Brothers & the Mountain Men have developed a sound that has an easy rock vibe that’s actually hip.” SF CHRONICLE

Alice Howe and Freebo present a unique study in contrasts, bringing together a rising voice in Americana music and a venerable rock, folk, and blues icon. Each a compelling performer in their own right, they both lead and support each other in their well-crafted songs with flawless harmonies and tasteful instrumentation. They have worked as creative collaborators in the studio and on stage since 2017. Freebo weaves his unique fretless bass stylings into Alice's superb vocals for a presentation with undeniable chemistry. To hear Alice Howe sing is to be enraptured by the natural, unaffected beauty of her voice. There’s no artifice, no histrionics — just honest, authentic, emotionally resonant singing in the tradition of the roots music that shaped her. On Circumstance, her second and latest album, the Los Angeles-based singer-songwriter guitarist displays her vocal prowess and introspective writing in abundance, mining both her heart and her musical tastes for a deep, personal journey across an Americana soundscape dotted with blues, folk, country, soul and rock. Recorded in two sessions at the legendary Fame Studios in Muscle Shoals, Alabama, where Etta James and Wilson Pickett once shook the walls, the record channels their spirits with 11 stirring tracks that pull no punches diving into the vagaries of the heart and her own personal journey. As an old soul inside a 30-something millennial, Alice puts her stamp on Americana’s venerable strands with 10 standout originals evoking both the classic singer-songwriters and the seminal music that once filled airwaves, roadhouses and juke joints. Freebo is best known for his decade of touring and recording with Bonnie Raitt, and has distinguished himself as one of the great bassists of our time, playing on records with CSN, Maria Muldaur, John Mayall, Ringo Starr, Dr. John, and Neil Young as well as appearing on Saturday Night Live, The Midnight Special, The Muppet Show, and in concert with the legendary Spinal Tap. Not willing to simply rest on those achievements, Freebo delved more deeply into his creativity and has become a highly regarded singer/songwriter, now working on his 6th full-length solo CD. A multi award winner and finalist in numerous songwriting contests, Freebo’s music reflects his compassionate concern for the world and people around him, and his lyrics and open stage banter have helped him connect with listeners worldwide. A live musical experience with Freebo is astute, insightful, clever, and truly melodic

Tell River + The Vultures + Build A Rocket

Tell River

Bay Area American Roots & Alt Country troubadours, Tell River bring a dynamic mix of original music and songwriting likened to bands such as Wilco, Old 97s, Drive by Truckers & Lucero. Frontman singer songwriter, Adam Tell June pushes evocative lyrical imagery throughout their songs painted over a heartfelt canvas in themes of love, loss, life & lust all amongst an epic backdrop of harmonies and guitar driven rock n roll.

The Vultures

“The East Bay’s finest purveyors of hokum for over 20 years, The Vultures swoop in for another peck at the rotting entrails of the American songbook. Like the California condor, their numbers are dwindling, but their spirit is as sullied and depraved as ever. Join Bryan and Shane as they do their best to offend and alarm you with a pungent mix of old and new songs.”

Build A Rocket

Build A Rocket is the brainchild of multi-instrumentalist Jen Carlson. With a backlog of songs, this project took shape over the course of the last 10 years. Mixing genres of her influences, it’s a nod to math rock + punker roots, with americana + country undertones. Jen’s sound pulls from the unlikely combination of a haunted surfbreak, with a galloping horse from a spaghetti western, paired with a dose a 60’s UFO convention and gusto of an ole’ biker gang. The songs are mostly true stories of life, adventure, heartaches and solitude. Murderous at moments, the gritty lyrics paint pictures ghosts past and present.

Fast Friends is a band that has been putting out music whenever they feel like it starting at the beginning of 2017. They play shows like they are 16 year olds that know how to play their instruments finally but also are totally over it and would like to jump up on the bar but what if I fall and break my other hip? Tom Peyton el cerrito/bay area (ex-wallpaper, ex-royalty, pitbull fireball) Ryan Spraker billerica/boston (ex-eli paperboy reed, ex-dry hump, next nickelback single) Frederik Thaae copenhagen denmark (ex-a kid hereafter, ex-aqua yeah that aqua ok fine he was the MD for a tour, atlas genius inanimate objects) started hanging out in 2015 in los angeles california. They find LA to provide the opportunity for a very comfortable lifestyle while also offering engaging cultural happenings but also plenty of room to feel crushingly alone existentially speaking and man it can be pretty filthy. One of the only things they have gotten good at in life is figuring out how to make catchy pop songs sound very loud and make people feel uncomfortable. At least I hope they make you uncomfortable.
